Thanda Foundation Trust

The Thanda Foundation Trust, founded in 2005 by
Christin and Dan Olofsson and chaired by Pierre
Delvaux since inception, is dedicated to uplifting
local rural communities around Thanda Safari
in KwaZulu-Natal. The Trust focuses on both
socio-economic development and wildlife conser-
vation. We address community needs through edu-
cation and community programmes, while leading
conservation efforts to protect endangered species
like rhinos and cheetahs. We are a founding member
of the anti-poaching initiative Project Rhino and
collaborate with the Princess Charlene of Monaco
Foundation on the #ChasingZero project.

In 2023, in partnership with Thanda Safari, we
introduced innovative AI-enabled rhino collars that
use algorithms to monitor and analyse behaviour,
detecting poaching threats or health concerns in
real-time. Amid a surge in poaching incidents this
year – with 60 percent of poaching deaths occurring
in Zululand – this technology has proven crucial.
