Thanda Foundation Trust
The Thanda Foundation Trust was established to
engage with the socio-economic, educational, and
developmental needs of the three tribal communities
neighbouring Thanda Safari in the Umkhanyekude
District. As well as to address the critical unemploy-
ment crisis currently facing South Africa and to raise
awareness of various conservation initiatives. The
Trust supports several community-based projects,
serves as a fundraising vehicle, and has spearheaded
the Stars at Work job creation initiative in collaboration
with Star for Life.
The Trust is a founding member of Project Rhino
KZN, an anti-poaching and conservation collaboration
between KwaZulu-Natal’s leading conservation
agencies and provincial game reserves, provincial
government bodies, private rhino owners and
anti-poaching security specialists.
The #ChasingZero collaboration with the Princess
Charlene of Monaco Foundation aims to initiate a
targeted global awareness campaign to reduce rhino
horn consumption, raise funds for a national youth
education campaign and to support game reserves
and communities in Zululand.
The Thanda Lions Football Team is funded through
the Trust and predominantly comprises unemployed
youth from the Umkhanyekude region. In addition to
soccer coaching, it assists the players with personal
development and education.
In collaboration with FC Rosengård the Trust sup-
ports a second sporting project, Football for Life by
FC Rosengård which helps to empower young women.
